Fox Cable Networks´ newly launched Fox Reality has acquired several never-before-seen unscripted series from around the globe and key international series based upon hit U.S. formats, it was announced today by Fox Reality Chief Operating Officer and General Manager David Lyle.
The new programming helps to fulfill two of Fox Reality´s cornerstone programming strategies "Reality Redeye" and "Reality Imports" in which the network provides reality fans opportunities to see hit unscripted programming from around the globe, as well as imported series based upon hit formats they´ve become familiar with in the U.S.
"Every one of these new series is a strong example of compelling reality television likely to satisfy our early fans´ growing interest in how reality television is made in other parts of the world," Lyle said. "Our audience responds to human drama whether it takes place among Americans cavorting around a Honduran resort, Brits living it up on the Costa del Sol and coming soon New Zealanders racing about on a remote Pacific Island."
Series involved fall into two primary camps. The first are programs originally created by burgeoning local production communities in Canada, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand that have never been seen in the United States. The second include shows produced by top U.S.-based format suppliers like Fox Television Studios´ unit Fox World that are international versions of top series that first achieved hit status on U.S. networks.
Fox Reality continues to add to its growing program portfolio, thanks to earlier agreements spanning virtually all of the major U.S. broadcast, cable and satellite and domestic first-run syndication suppliers. Producers behind this latest wave of acquisitions include Touchdown Productions, Target Entertainment, BullsEye Entertainment, Southern Star International, Lone Eagle Entertainment, as well as Fox World.
Among the new international programs never before seen in the U.S. are:
Australia´s TREASURE ISLAND - New Zealand´s TREASURE ISLAND - and TREASURE ISLAND EXTREME (Touchdown Productions) that pits contestants on an uninhabited island in search of buried treasure
THE VILLA, (Target Entertainment), a U.K. series in which participants living together seek out among their housemates a future romantic interest
RENOVATION RESCUE, (Southern Star International), an Australian series where the host surprises a family by transforming their home and life in just two days.
WORLD OF STUPID, (Bullseye Entertainment), produced in the U.K, the series celebrates the crazy capers of daredevils who are prepared to risk life and limb in an array of outrageous stunts.
THE CALL, (Lone Eagle Entertainment), produced in Canada and featuring would-be actors and actresses competing in auditions. New Fox Reality international shows based upon hit formats created in the U.S. include:
JOE MILLIONAIRE, UK (Fox World)
TEMPTATION ISLAND, Australia and UK, (Fox World)
PLAYING IT STRAIGHT, Australia (Fox World)
MILLION POUND HOAX, UK (Target Entertainment)

THE PRINCES OF MALIBU Moving to Fox Reality TV
This Sunday, Fox Networks Group´s new cable and satellite network Fox Reality becomes home to THE PRINCES OF MALIBU, an original reality series begun on Fox Broadcasting Co. earlier this summer. David Lyle, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Fox Realty, said Fox Reality will also keep THE PRINCES OF MALIBU in its same 8:30 pm (ET) time period on each of the next four Sundays to complete its four original episodes.
"People who love reality TV are some of the most passionate fans you could hope to find," Lyle said. "One goal in creating Fox Reality is to offer fans an exciting place to share in their commitment to reality. We offer them a wide range of programming, including shows that didn´t complete their runs elsewhere."
THE PRINCES OF MALIBU, an unscripted series filled with humor and some universally relatable family issues, focuses on the home life of legendary musician, composer, arranger and producer David Foster, his wife Linda Thompson an award-winning songwriter, and his stepsons Brandon (24) and Brody (21). The remaining four original episodes will air on consecutive Sundays, beginning July 31 (8:30 PM 9:00 PM ET/PT).
THE PRINCES OF MALIBU uncovers the comedy that inevitably arises when two free-wheeling adult brothers live at home with their mother and stepfather. The difference here is that their home is a luxurious 22-acre compound by the sea. Set in the ritzy, sun-drenched environs of tony Malibu, California, the show reveals both the drama and the humor as Brandon and Brody Jenner live the high life while trying to coexist with their stepdad.
The recipient of 14 Grammy Awards, Foster has worked with some of the most successful artists in the music industry world-class performers such as Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Lionel Richie, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, Neil Diamond, Josh Groban and many others. But while Foster´s prolific career continues to soar, things at home have gotten complicated when it comes to his stepsons. The boys are attractive and charming and they´ve learned how to use their "skills" to get themselves out of tricky situations. They can do no wrong in the eyes of their mother, a former Miss Tennessee who dated Elvis Presley for five years and was later married to Olympian Bruce Jenner.
So while Foster is hard at work, Brandon and Brody are working hard at spending his money running up tabs at expensive restaurants, partying all night, and bringing literally hundreds of friends and strangers home with them. All that is about to stop. Foster is putting his foot down.
He´s being driven to distraction and the boys´ antics aren´t exactly pleasing neighbors like Streisand, Britney Spears and Pamela Anderson. If Brandon and Brody want to keep living under Foster´s roof, they´ll have to act more responsibly and start paying their own way.

Second Season of DANCING WITH THE STARS In 2006
DANCING WITH THE STARS will return to the ABC Television Network in 2006 as a midseason series with all new episodes, it was announced today by Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment. The series will continue to be produced by BBC Worldwide Productions, creators of the British hit show, STRICTLY COME DANCING, on which the ABC show was based.
"DANCING has played a pivotal role in a great summer season for ABC," said McPherson. "The show is tremendous fun, perfect for our brand and a wonderful boost for our schedule. Having DANCING and BRAT CAMP both emerge this summer as assets for the future gives us great upside down the line."
The series pairs celebrities with professional ballroom dancers. The couples train in such dances as the Viennese Waltz, the Rumba, the Cha-Cha-Cha and the Tango, and then compete in front of a studio audience Ð and a live national television audience. They are judged by a panel of experts, as well as by viewers at home, with one couple being eliminated each week.
"I love everything about this show," said Andrea Wong, executive vice president, Alternative Programming, Specials and Late-Night, ABC Entertainment. "It was an odd left turn, so it´s especially gratifying to see it embraced by so many people."
"We love it that the American public has gone crazy for DANCING WITH THE STARS," said Wayne Garvie, head of BBC Entertainment Group. "For the second season, we guarantee even more tears, tantrums and tangos than ever before."
During its premiere season, DANCING WITH THE STARS emerged as the biggest summer hit of 2005. The broad-appealing unscripted series ranked No. 1 in its Wednesday 9 o´clock time period among Total Viewers, across each of the key adult demos (Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54), as well as among Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11. On average it towered over its closest competition in its hour (NBC) by 9.2 million viewers (16.8 million vs. 7.6 million) and by 143% in Adults 18-49 (5.1/15 vs. 2.1/6), and ranked as the No. 1 TV show on Wednesday night among viewers and young adults on all 6 of its telecasts.
The No. 1 TV series this summer, DANCING WITH THE STARS also qualified as the most-watched summer series on any network in the last 5 years Ð since the inaugural season of SURVIVOR in Summer 2000.

The ABC Television Network announced today the order for nine episodes of THE MILLION DOLLAR IDEA (working title), a new reality series from executive producers Simon Cowell, Nigel Hall and Cecile Frot-Coutaz of FremantleMedia North America. Over the course of the series, the show will undertake a nationwide search for America´s greatest entrepreneur with the best business idea or new product. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity culminates with the presentation of $1,000,000 worth of business support, including cash, top-notch entrepreneurial counsel and physical resources to the winner, allowing him/her to turn a dream into reality.
"The Million Dollar Idea" was conceived by Simon Cowell, one of reality television´s greatest anti-heroes, and Peter Jones, one of Britain´s youngest entrepreneurs. Cowell´s honesty on AMERICAN IDOL has made him a household name in the U.S., but his career spans more than 20 years in the music industry as both a producer and executive. Cowell has also produced the UK series THE X FACTOR, as well as the American series, CUPID, all in conjunction with FremantleMedia, the producers of AMERICAN IDOL. Jones found television fame as one of the panelists on a hit business reality show in England. Jones´ straight talking and ability to detect innovative business ideas is the reason why he will be one of the judges on THE MILLION DOLLAR IDEA.
"This is an exciting show," says Cowell. "Right now, someone in America may be sitting on the best new idea in the world. This show gives everyone the chance to fulfill that dream. I have no idea who or what is going to turn up, and that is the fun of this new series."
The series will take viewers on the full journey from open-call auditions through a nail-biting competition for $50,000 in "seed money" that only nine finalists will win. The finalists are then sent home to try to bring their idea to fruition. Their challenge is how to best invest their $50,000 in seed money to win a place in the finale. All the while, judging the competition are THE MILLIONAIRES -- a three-person panel of business leaders who have achieved their own success with original concepts that they were able to bring to life. The three best inventions will compete in the live finale, where America will vote and decide what they believe is THE MILLION DOLLAR IDEA.
"Simon and Peter have conceived a fantastic show," said Andrea Wong, executive vice president, Alternative Programming, Specials and Late-Night, ABC Entertainment. "Somebody out there has thought of the next Post-it Note or Starbucks, but they don´t have the means to actually make it happen. It´s going to be thrilling to find that person and make his or her dream a reality."
Added Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Chief Operating Officer, Production, FremantleMedia North America: "THE MILLION DOLLAR IDEA was born out of Simon´s desire to continue bringing talented and creative people to the forefront of reality television. Having worked with Simon for years, I am delighted to partner with him once again on a project that I feel will be a tremendous success."

ROCK STAR INXS Online Voting Really Screwed UP
Message boards and forums on the Internet are abuzz with numerous problems for people attempting to vote for their favorite performers on the new reality TV series ROCK STAR INXS.
MSN, who is one of the official sponsors of the show, is causing numerous complaints and issues for people who logged into the official website www.RockStar.MSN.com and finding that either there is no where on the main page to vote for their performers or a message appears that voting has close.
All the complaints are very similar in nature as one such post indicates:
clytores on the rockstarforums.msn.com message board said:
"I have just finished watching the show:
(1) Can´t vote using the rockstar.msn.com/vote link.
(2) No link on rockstar.msn.com exists.
This sucks. Clearly, your web page programmers took the rock star fantasy TOO FAR and was drunk, stoned, or whatever when the page was created."
Numerous other people are also complaining that they cannot vote if they are using another web browser other than Internet Explorer. While others are also complaining that people on Apple Macintosh Computers are not even allowed to vote.
(Editors note: Our staff had numerous problems attempting to vote as well - as we all kept getting messages that voting was closed. Unfortunately, no one from our staff was ever able to place a vote).
And now to add more salt to the wound, voters were informed at the end of last night´s performance that their vote may really not even count anyway since the general public will not be really deciding on who stays or who goes. The reason behind that is the band, Inxs, gets to eliminate one performer themselves tonight (out of the bottom three vote getters).
For a show that premiered on Monday with disappointing ratings - irrating the fans they do have may not be in the best interest of the series.

NBC Announces A New Unscripted Series DEAL OR NO DEAL
NBC will broadcast DEAL OR NO DEAL, a new unscripted series from the producers of NBC´s FEAR FACTOR and EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION that pits in-studio contestants against each other in a high-energy match of nerves, instincts and raw intuition for a top prize worth millions of dollars. The announcement was made today by Craig Plestis, Senior Vice President, Alternative Programming & Development.
The series is based on a previous format by its production company, Endemol USA and is currently a success internationally, being broadcast in 38 countries.
"This series is a proven winner that challenges contestants to overcome their own nerves in a pressure-cooker environment," said Plestis. "There are no physical stunts or trivia questions to answer. In order to claim a fortune, the winner will essentially have to know when to say ´when.´"
