NBC´s THE BIGGEST LOSER Announces 14 New Candidates
NBC´s competitive weight-loss series THE BIGGEST LOSER (Tuesdays, 8-9 p.m. ET) revealed 14 new candidates - including a stand-up comic, an attorney, two police officers and a physician - who will form rival teams of men versus women in an attempt to win a grand prize of $250,000 for shedding the most pounds.
The unscripted series kicks off with a special 90-minute episode on Tuesday, Sept. 13 (8-9:30 p.m. ET).
THE BIGGEST LOSER offers overweight participants the opportunity to undergo a radical physical makeover without any kind of surgery. Caroline Rhea (SABRINA, THE TEENAGE WITCH) returns to host as contestants vie for the grand prize of $250,000 for losing the most weight in a safe and recommended manner through comprehensive diet and exercise. The life-altering series gathers contestants from across the country to face real-life temptations while being provided with approved weight-loss skills and resources in an effort to help them transform their bodies, health - and ultimately, their lives.
Each team works out under the supervision of professional trainers Jillian Michaels (red team) and Bob Harper (blue team).
The seven women and seven men who form the new THE BIGGEST LOSER teams include:
THE WOMEN:
· Ryan Kelly, 26, Jefferson City, Tennessee
Free-spirited Kelly is a legal assistant and a music director at her church while her husband is a church deacon and a police officer. She has two young children and she is a devoted wife and mother. While she considers her weight "out of control," at 26, she just wants to feel attractive again for herself and her husband. She could steal the spotlight and is considered to be a magnetic force majeure.
· Kathryn Murphy, 28, Bloomington, Minnesota
As an attorney who can win most debates, Murphy's confidence and fierce intelligence will be major assets in her will to win. Like so many women, she is self-sufficient and independent and stops at nothing - but needs the right "tools" to lose weight. Passionate about her work and all aspects of her life, Murphy doesn´t have enough time to focus on herself but believes the competition will allow her to focus on losing weight.
· Jen Kersey, 24, Des Moines, Iowa
Kersey is a med student, wife and mother of two young children. The saying "all work and no play" describes Kersey, who attends medical school all day, then returns home to cook dinner for her family, tuck her kids into bed - and then stay up until the early morning studying for exams. With no time for herself, she puts her family first. Kersey´s demise when it comes to food has been the vending machines at work. Without time to eat or prepare a healthy meal for herself, she grabs what is convenient versus what is healthy. She is studying osteopathic medicine and wants to be a role model for her patients. Brutally honest, Kersey always gives 100 percent.
· Suzanne Mendonca, 26, Franklin Square, New York
Mendonca is one tough NYPD cop who had yet to meet a challenge she couldn´t conquer with the exception of her weight. The feisty Mendonca is the typical "Monday dieter" who fails by mid-week, only to start again by the following Monday. But she is now motivated to lose weight for her wedding so that she can wear the dress of her dreams. But she acknowledges that chocolate is her weakness - and temptation will be her greatest obstacle.
· Shannon Mullen, 29, Revere, Massachusetts
Mullen is a contract administrator from Massachusetts who doesn´t always feel the way she looks because her weight proves to be debilitating. Admittedly stubborn, Mullen says she can be too hard on herself. As a single mom, Mullen has raised her daughter on her own and wants to learn how to eat to live - not live to eat. Her goal is to look at a picture taken of her and not feel embarrassed.
· Andrea Overstreet, 28, Placentia, California
A wife and mother of two young children, Overstreet is a cosmetologist who wants to feel like a princess all the time. She loves attention and wants to regain the body she once had. Unlike the others, Overstreet has not always battled with her weight. Athletic and active, she was thin most of her life but since having kids and giving up sports, she has not been able to lose the weight. She admits to often thinking before she speaks - and then jumping to conclusions. All Overstreet says she needs is a "kick in the butt" to jump-start her weight-loss.
· Suzy Preston, 28, Des Moines, Washington
The 28-year-old hairdresser only wants to lose weight, feel confident - and find the man of her dreams. The All-American sweetheart is giving, energetic and positive. She even has swung through the jungles in Costa Rica and claims if she can do that, then she can do anything. Preston wants to find her man, settle down and feel healthy again. Selfless and demure, she also wears her heart on her sleeve, making it likely that many viewers will empathize with her.
THE MEN:
· Nick Gaza, 39, Glendale, California
As a stand-up comic, Gaza uses comedy to mask his weight issues. Loyal, caring and a good listener, Gaza also admits to being lazy and doesn´t have the motivation he needs to kick start a healthy lifestyle. Making people laugh is his pride and joy even at the expense of himself. The single Gaza wants to be good-looking again at 39 years of age and doesn´t want to worry about having a heart attack which is no laughing matter.
· Ruben Hernandez, 37, Culver City, California
Hernandez is the class clown, flirt and "life of the party" all rolled into one. Outgoing and friendly, he tends to light up a room when he walks in but admits his behavior can get him into trouble. With a one-time svelte body, Hernandez has fallen a victim to his mom´s tasty home cooking of chili verde. Hernandez is an instigator who is can be expected to spice up the show as much as he does his own life.
· Matt Hoover, 28, Marion, Iowa
A legend back in his hometown, Hoover was an NCAA wrestling champion from Iowa State in his glory days. Until recently, he had never seen himself as a "fat guy." He competed in the world championships and even beat a contender who won a gold medal in the Summer Olympics in Athens. Hoover was torn from his Olympic dreams by an injury, and as a result, gained so much weight that he pushed himself outside the realm of competitive sports. But Hoover has the heart of a champion and is sure to inspire his teammates and viewers alike.
· Jeff Levine, 42, Hillsborough, New Jersey
Dr. Levine is more than the average father of four girls. A family physician, an associate professor and a director of women´s health programs, Dr. Levine never has time for himself. His primary focus is on his patients, his kids and his wife. That leaves little time for him to care for himself. America will see this multi-tasking doctor at last concentrate on his own needs as he tries to practice what he preaches.
· Pete Thomas, 36, Ypsilanti, Michigan
The jovial Thomas, 36, is from Detroit and likes to be the life of the party wherever he goes. But he also likes good food, and as a devoted husband, he says his love of comestibles is to blame for his weight gain. He considers exercise painful and food "a friend." Growing up in foster care, Pete knows he can overcome anything with a little direction and eating guidance. But he considers himself as competitive as any one of his 13 other contestants.
· Seth Word, 24, Sacramento, California
Word is a happily married man and father whose Mormon faith is very important to him. A role model in every sense of the word, Word never takes the easy way out. Acting under his motto, "put family first," Word is determined to lose weight and see his 18-month-old child grow up healthy. He is a product of his own hard work in sales and wants to take care of himself, once and for all, by hitting his goal weight.
· Mark Yesitis, 36, Campbell, California
Yesitis is a San Francisco police officer and cancer survivor who works patrol as a field-training officer - which means he hears "fat jokes" all the time. Sick of the stereotype that all cops hang out in doughnut shops, he wants to disprove that notion. Actually, Yesitis got into the police force so that he could help people, and he wants to continue inspiring others with his story. Just two years ago, he beat testicular cancer. This married father of two children is out to prove that anything - including weight loss - is possible.
The unscripted series kicks off with a special 90-minute episode on Tuesday, Sept. 13 (8-9:30 p.m. ET).

But she acknowledges that chocolate is her weakness - and temptation will be her greatest obstacle.
· Shannon Mullen, 29, Revere, Massachusetts

Her goal is to look at a picture taken of her and not feel embarrassed.
· Andrea Overstreet, 28, Placentia, California
A wife and mother of two young children, Overstreet is a cosmetologist who wants to feel like a princess all the time. She loves attention and wants to regain the body she once had.

THE CONTENDER Rematch Fight Set For October 15
Mark Burnett Productions, DreamWorks Television, and ESPN, Inc. have announced a date, venue and fight card for the first of three boxing specials.
On Saturday, October 15th 2005, live from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, ESPN will televise a fight card packed with Season One Contender fighters as they once again battle in classic East vs. West fashion.
The Contender champion Sergio "The Latin Snake" Mora will be defending his Contender belt against rival Peter "The Pride of Providence" Manfredo Jr., whom he last defeated in May. This highly anticipated rematch will take place in Mora´s hometown of Los Angeles at STAPLES Center on Saturday, October 15th.
"Living together under one roof as long as we did created a bond that isn´t typically found in a solitary sport such as boxing. Peter and I have a mutual respect for one another, thus allowing this rematch to take place. But this time, he´ll have to come to my hometown, and you can believe the snake will bite again," stated a confident Sergio Mora.
Peter Manfredo provided his comments, "This is make-or-break for me. I refuse to lose twice in a row. I proved that against Alfonso and I´ll prove that against Sergio. It´s time to restore the Pride to Providence. October 15th will be the day I do just that."
The undercard will feature the exciting match-ups of Alfonso "Superman" Gomez vs. Jeff "The Hell Raza" Fraza, Anthony Bonsante vs. Jesse Brinkley, Jonathan Reid vs. Miguel Espino.
"As we embark on the next phase of THE CONTENDER with our new partners at ESPN, we are thrilled to have a terrific home for our Oct 15 event in The Staples Center, which has been the site of some of the best world class boxing in recent years," stated Jeffrey Katzenberg, executive producer of THE CONTENDER.
"As the event that launches the ESPN era for THE CONTENDER, we´re scheduling the ´East vs. West´ special with an eye toward ratings success - in prime time on Saturday night October 15th following a college football game, a powerful lead-in for a powerful new ESPN Original Entertainment series," expressed Will Staeger, Executive producer, ESPN Original Entertainment.
"Rocky-style, THE CONTENDER has improved the televised boxing viewing experience by making millions of fans care about the men who step into the ring. We know their families, their hopes and their dreams! That´s why it works, and will continue to work," explained Mark Burnett.
ESPN will air the event live at 8:00pm (PST) / 11:00pm (EST).

THE LAW FIRM Set To Resume On Bravo On August 30
Bravo will air the eight-episode competition reality series THE LAW FIRM, beginning with back-to-back airings of the first two one-hour episodes Tuesday, August 30 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. The subsequent, never-before-aired episodes will roll out Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. for six consecutive weeks starting September 6.
The unscripted series from multiple Emmy Award winning producer David E. Kelley (THE PRACTICE, ALLY MCBEAL, L.A. LAW) provides an informative peek inside the legal system by following real lawyers as they compete against each other and try real court cases with real clients, in front of real judges and juries, resulting in outcomes that are final, legal and binding for the parties. Representing a diverse array of legal backgrounds the competing attorneys must think quickly on their feet and remain composed in even the stickiest of situations.
Smart, strong-willed and fiercely competitive, the attorneys work together in different teams each week, battling tight deadlines, intense pressure and even each other as they strategize, prepare and try their cases, which range from First Amendment issues to neighbor disputes to wrongful death. Judges will decide some of the cases, while a jury determines the others. Each week, the stakes get higher - not only in the competition among the lawyers but with the cases themselves. In the end, the top attorney will win a prize of $250,000.
Premier trial attorney and legal analyst Roy Black is the managing partner of THE LAW FIRM and determines which of the twelve lawyers will be eliminated each week. A renowned criminal defense and civil lawyer with more than 35 years of experience, Black has represented such high-profile clients as William Kennedy Smith, Rush Limbaugh and artist Peter Max. Black serves as senior partner of the busy Miami-based law firm of Black, Srebnick, Kornspan & Stumpf, P.A. In addition, he currently serves as an NBC News legal analyst, appearing regularly on THE TODAY SHOW and other NBC and MSNBC news programs. He was recently selected by his peers for the fifth consecutive edition (a span of 10 years) for inclusion in "The Best Lawyers in America 2003-2004."

Daytime Reality TV Series STARTING OVER To Kickoff Third Season With Men In House
STARTING OVER, the first-ever, real-life daytime drama from NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution and Bunim-Murray Productions (THE REAL WORLD, THE SIMPLE LIFE), has started production on its highly-anticipated third season, which premieres on September 19, 2005 (syndicated, check local listings for time and station). The innovative, critically-acclaimed series has broken with its own tradition and started the season with a surprise: men have joined women in the STARTING OVER house.
The third season starts with four couples moving into a new STARTING OVER house in Southern California´s San Fernando Valley. STARTING OVER Life Coaches Rhonda Britten and Iyanla Vanzant, and Consulting Psychologist Dr. Stan Katz return and host an intensive, three-week Relationship Boot Camp for the couples, each at a critical crossroads in their relationship.
The difficulties that the STARTING OVER couples face include: the turmoil caused by infidelity, the stress that money has on relationships, the strain caused by lies and a quick temper, and the difficulties that cultural differences put on a relationship.
"We like to keep STARTING OVER fresh for the daytime audience," said Jon Murray, Chairman of Bunim-Murray Productions and Executive Producer STARTING OVER. "From day one, fans have been asking, ´Will you ever put men in the STARTING OVER house?' We thought it was time to give the fans what they want, and show a different aspect of what Life Coaches can accomplish."
"Having men, couples come into the STARTING OVER house is a natural extension for this special series," says Linda Finnell, Senior Vice President, Programming and Development, NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution. "From what we have already seen in production, this will be a great way to kick off our third season." STARTING OVER will provide critical, couples-based life coaching in the five basic principles of healthy relationships: Respect, Commitment, Cooperation, Intimacy and Affection, and Trust. Each couple in the STARTING OVER house has had a breakdown in at least one of those areas.
During Relationship Boot Camp, the couples and viewers at home will learn mental tools and get instructions necessary to improve their relationships. At the conclusion of this series of special episodes that will air during the initial weeks of the season, the couples will leave and six women will enter the STARTING OVER house for a return to the traditional daytime drama that STARTING OVER fans have come to love and expect.
The new location for the Emmy-winning series is a gorgeous, sprawling ranch-style estate with tennis courts, lush gardens, and a pool. As in previous seasons, scores of cameras will capture the daily drama that makes this show such a treat for its fans, and which has caused it to be described as "Hellishly addictive" by NEW YORK MAGAZINE.
The couples who will participate in STARTING OVER Relationship Boot Camp are:
Jacylyn (23) and Michael (26)
Phoenix, AZ
Young and in love, they want to graduate from the house engaged, but there are several real issues they need to overcome if that is to happen. During a temporary break-up caused by Michael's infidelity, tragedy struck Jacylyn. Despite getting back together, the relationship is in turmoil; he feels terribly guilty and she is unable to trust him, or anyone else.
Lou (37) and Jennifer (39)
Dallas, TX
Lou and Jennifer have been married for 10 years and have a child together, but they fight more than they get along. Lou is a hairdresser, while Jennifer works for her family and is much more high-strung and demanding. The couple fights about money constantly and needs to learn how to work out their differences in a more constructive fashion.
Troy (38 ) Cheryl (42)
Denver, CO
Troy and Cheryl have been married longer than most couples-- going on 20 years. However, it has not been an easy road and after so many years together, the two have gotten into some unhealthy patterns. Cheryl has a powerful temper, and Troy hides the truth to avoid getting his wife angry. They want to recapture the spark they once had and to rebuild their relationship.
Simon (26) and Kacie (26)
Los Angeles, CA
Simon comes from a very strict, old-fashioned Pakistani family that believes in wives dressing demurely, staying at home, and taking care of the family. Kacie is a modern, outspoken woman. This couple does not agree on much, and the culture clash is affecting how they raise their four year old daughter. Both Simon and Kacie agree on one thing; marriage is forever, so they need help finding common ground.
The STARTING OVER support team consists of:
Rhonda Britten - Founder of the Fearless Living Institute (FLI), Rhonda Britten returns for her third season as a Life Coach on STARTING OVER. Known for her trademark creative exercises that vividly demonstrate the concepts behind her coaching, Britten is the author of Change Your Life in 30 Days, Fearless Loving and Fearless Living, which is a worldwide hit and has been translated into 12 languages. She can also be seen in the United Kingdom on the primetime television hit HELP ME RHONDA.
Iyanla Vanzant - Iyanla Vanzant rose from humble beginnings to become the best-selling author of more than a dozen books such as ACTS OF FAITH and IN THE MEANTIME, a celebrated columnist for ESSENCE MAGAZINE, an inspirational teacher, and Founder of the Inner Visions Spiritual Life Maintenance Center. Vanzant leads extremely popular personal growth and motivational workshops all over the world.
Stan J. Katz, Ph.D. - Dr. Stan J. Katz is Consulting Psychologist to the STARTING Over housemates, and plays a critical role in their treatment, and in their understanding of STARTING OVER. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Katz is a nationally recognized clinical and forensic psychologist with graduate degrees from Boston University and UCLA who has co-authored several self-help books about relationships and abuse.
The series enters the 2005-2006 season with a Daytime Emmy Award which it won in the category of "Outstanding Special Class Series."

THE CONTENDER Avoids KO And Returns To ESPN In April 2006
ESPN, Inc., Mark Burnett Productions, and DreamWorks Television announced today that the second season of the critically acclaimed series THE CONTENDER is set to begin airing on ESPN April 2006. THE CONTENDER is an unscripted drama about the lives, fears and hopes of 16 professional boxers as they compete for the chance to change their lives and the lives of the people they love forever.
THE CONTENDER will air under the ESPN Original Entertainment (EOE) banner and be executive produced by Mark Burnett (SURVIVOR, THE APPRENTICE, ROCK STAR INXS), Jeffrey Katzenberg and Sylvester Stallone. Plans call for casting and production to begin immediately and for the series to air beginning April 2006 in primetime on ESPN.
"THE CONTENDER has all of the elements that make it the right fit for ESPN: compelling storylines, dynamic characters and suspense over the outcome," said Mark Shapiro, ESPN executive vice president, programming and production. "This series speaks to our viewers´ love for competition and their appreciation for triumph over adversity, and it goes without saying that the track record of Mark Burnett is exemplary -- a perfect match for the critical and ratings successes EOE has delivered in both scripted and unscripted drama."
Mark Burnett said, "Our vision from the onset was to improve the entertainment experience of televised boxing for the fans. What better platform to achieve that vision than on the network that pioneered sports television programming."
After being introduced to all the contestants in the first episode, each subsequent show will see one or more boxing hopefuls eliminated via in-the-ring competition against each other. Viewers will see contestants training in the ring, living together in one house, and witness their personal interactions, while learning the often heart wrenching details of the lives these men lead and what led them to pursue their dream.
ESPN has options to renew the series for two subsequent seasons, and the network is partnered with Burnett and Katzenberg in utilizing the series across all media platforms on a worldwide basis.
Mark Burnett Productions will continue to handle the distribution of the series internationally, as well as the sponsorships and product integration.

Readers Favorite Reality TV Survey Results From Bravo and TV GUIDE
In a recent poll commissioned by Bravo and TV Guide magazine to determine viewers´ tastes regarding reality television, AMERICAN IDOL´S Clay Aiken is number one in the hearts of reality fans, while THE APPRENTICE´S Omarosa is the most hated reality star. The Internet omnibus survey was conducted by TNS in conjunction with Bravo´s premiere of BATTLE OF THE NETWORK REALITY STARS, the cable channel´s homage to the great 70´s original BATTLE OF THE NETWORK STARS. The series will premiere on Bravo on Wednesday, August 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. In addition, the results from the poll will be printed in the August 14 issue of TV GUIDE magazine on newsstands on August 11.
"These are real people who allow the American public to experience their raw emotion and quirks as they embark on their own reality - taking us with them every step of the way," said Andrew Cohen, VP, Production & Programming for Bravo.
"Love it or hate it, reality television is here to stay. Reality stars have made their mark on the pop culture landscape, and they won´t be leaving any time soon," says TV GUIDE Senior Editor Rich Sands. "This poll is a fun tribute to the best and worst of the genre---the villains, the heroes, the drama divas--and ultimately a celebration of the very reasons we all keep tuning in."
Following are highlights from the Bravo/TV GUIDE Poll results:
IN A POPULARITY CONTEST, CLAY COMES OUT ON TOP AND OMAROSA HAS VERY FEW FRIENDS:
Clay Aiken (35%) barely edged out fellow AMERICAN IDOL contestant Kelly Clarkson (34%) as the most loved reality star of all-time, with half of those polled agreeing that Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth of THE APPRENTICE is the most hated.
MOVE OVER WHITNEY AND BOBBY; OVER HALF OF AMERICA CHOSE NICK & JESSICA TO RAISE THEIR CHILD:
Viewers and readers have officially spoken - when it comes to entrusting a reality star couple to raise their child, an overwhelming 54% trust Nick & Jessica, over more experienced parents Whitney & Bobby, Sharon & Ozzy, and the expectant couple Britney & Kevin!
THE AMAZING RACE TAKES FIRST PLACE:
When asked to choose which reality series they would be a contestant on, 31% of respondents would sprint to get on THE AMAZING RACE, but only 17% feel rosy about THE BACHELOR"/"THE BACHELORETTE.
SURVIVOR´S RICHARD HATCH GETS SLAMMED BY AMERICA WITH DODGE BALL:
Richard Hatch would have a tough time surviving in dodge ball, with 42% of people taking aim at him first. Wendy Pepper from PROJECT RUNWAY would remain fairly unscathed with just 13% pummeling her with the dodge ball.
WHO DESERVES MORE THAN 15 MINUTES OF FAME? AMERICAN IDOL´S WILLIAM HUNG CAME OUT FIRST:
AMERICAN IDOL´S William Hung is the most deserving of his own TV series according to 31% of respondents. But, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth of THE APPRENTICE should simply stick to her day job.
IT´S THE BATTLE OF THE BEAUTIES IN A GAME OF TUG O´ WAR:
AMERICA´S NEXT TOP MODEL Brittany Brower and THE SWAN´S Rachel Love-Fraser are favored 37% by respondents to drag each other through the mud in a tug o´ war match-up. Only 18% want to see duo Charla Faddoul and Mirna Hindoyan from THE AMAZING RACE duke it out.
The Bravo/TV GUIDE poll was conducted among 1,000 adults ages 18+ from July 14-15, 2005.

They are looking for emotional stories of people in need. They want to help deserving people. People who always help others, but never think of themselves. The wishes can involve fantasies, reunions, and personal journeys -- as long as the wishes come from the heart. There are no limits to what this show can do or how many lives it can change. Anything you can imagine will be considered and price is not an object.
So ask yourself, if you could make a life-changing wish, what would it be? Would you like to surprise someone with a wish? Can we help grant a wish to an entire town?

Bravo Adds Two Additional Episodes For BEING BOBBY BROWN
Due to the overwhelming success and popularity of the hit cinema verite style series BEING BOBBY BROWN, Bravo has added two additional episodes to the schedule. The new episodes will air in its regular 10 p.m. ET/PT Thursday timeslot with the season finale airing on August 25 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The announcement was made yesterday by Lauren Zalaznick, President of Bravo.
"The first eight episodes of BEING BOBBY BROWN have kept Bravo viewers buzzing and have even helped contribute to adding new catch-phrases to our pop-culture vernacular," said Zalaznick. "This is a highly compelling and engaging series, and we hope two new episodes will satisfy viewers´ appetites for more Bobby and Whitney.
Viewers will continue get the inside look at BEING BOBBY BROWN in the two additional episodes. The episode premiering Thursday, August 18, will take an inside look at Bobby and Whitney´s Atlanta and New Jersey homes. The season finale, premiering August 25, will take a behind the scenes look at BEING BOBBY BROWN showcasing some of the favorite moments from the series and will also reveal never before seen footage from Bobby´s life.
As one of the hottest R&B stars of the late ´80s and early ´90s, Brown is credited for popularizing New Jack Swing, a hybrid style of R&B/soul music combined with rap and Hip-Hop rhythms. A founding member of New Edition, Brown left the group in 1986 to embark on a solo career. Brown´s second solo album, DON´T BE CRUEL," which was released in 1988, landed him on the cutting-edge of modern R&B and spawned the no. 1 hit MY PREROGATIVE, and other chart-toppers such as RONI, and EVERY LITTLE STEP, which earned him a Grammy in 1989 for Best Rhythm and Blues Vocal Performance, Male. Brown´s other hits include the GHOSTBUSTERS II theme ON OUR OWN, SHE AIN´T WORTH IT, HUMPIN´AROUND, GOOD ENOUGH, GET AWAY, and THAT´S THE WAY LOVE IS.
